Setting off at 10:30 from St. Andrew's Church in Cheam our Banstead Coaches driver Kevin dodged most of the roadworks and got us to our first destination, The Royal Logistics Corps Museum in Kings Worthy at midday. This relatively new museum traces the history of moving the army, men and materials around the globe from the Napoleonic era to the present day.

It was encouraging that a military museum found favour amongst all our group, there were plenty of interesting exhibits, I quite liked the Crispy Duck!

After a snack in the museum cafe we were off to New Alresford Station to join our train for afternoon tea. As seems usual on my outings it was raining when we arrived but this was good news as it meant we had a steam locomotive to pull the train! Earlier in the month the dry conditions meant that the fire risk from the steam engine was too great and diesels had to be used as the Railway doesn't have insurance for neighboring crop damage.

Once the train got underway we were served a glass of prosecco before the volunteers brought out an amazing stack of cakes and sandwiches.

Whilst some very hungry souls managed to consume all of this wonderful fayre the majority of us were more than happy to take home lots of left-overs in the thoughtfully provided 'doggy packs'. I had a most enjoyable tea and cakes the following afternoon!

It was a fun day out, there's nothing quite like the smell of a steam locomotive.
